그리고 한 가지 덧붙이자면,
성서를 영어로 표현할 때 사용되는 전치사는 크게 두 가지입니다.
at과 in인데요.
성서만 언급하는 경우에는 in을 사용합니다.
예문 하나를 보겠습니다.

이처럼 장과 절의 언급이 없고
성서만 언급하는 경우에는 in을 사용합니다.

창세기(創世記, 히브리어: סֵפֶר בְּרֵאשִׁית, 그리스어: Γένεσις, 영어: Book of Genesis)는 구약성경의 첫 번째 책이다. 천지창조와 아담과 하와의 에덴 동산 추방, 노아의 방주와 홍수, 바벨탑 그리고 모세 이전 유대 민족이 이집트에 들어간 이야기를 담고 있다.[1]
명칭 [ 편집 ]
타나크에서는 이 책을 율법서 토라의 첫 번째 책으로 놓고 있다.[1] 원본은 소실되어 없으며, 현재 여러 필사본들이 남아있어, 이를 기반으로 많은 언어의 번역본이 만들어졌다. 이 책은 신이 세상을 창조하는 과정으로 시작하여 이스라엘 민족이 이집트로 이주하는 시기까지의 내용을 다루고 있다. 창세기의 히브리어 이름인 ‘베레쉬트'(בראשית)는 히브리어로 쓰인 이 책의 첫 번째 단어에 해당하며, 이 단어가 그대로 이 책의 이름으로 불리게 되었다. 이 단어는 ‘처음에, 시작으로, 우선’ 등의 의미를 가지고 있다.[2] 이 책을 포함하는 모세오경의 5권은 전부 각각의 처음에 나오는 히브리어 단어를 따서 책 이름이 정해졌다.

창세기는 이스라엘 민족의 종교적 관념과 성립에 관한 역사적 가정과 근본 이야기를 제시하며, 이스라엘 역사, 법, 관습에 관한 소개 글 역할을 한다. 창세기는 모세오경 가운데 하나로 분류하지만, 본문에 창세기 저자에 관한 언급이 없다. 성서학 학자들은 모세오경을 모세의 저작이 아니라[3] 종교 지도자 등 불명의 저자들이 그전부터 내려오던 이스라엘 민족과 종교에 관한 서로 다른 문헌과 견해를 그들의 신학에 따라 묶은 것으로 생각한다.[4] 이 작업에는 적어도 4가지 다른 전승을 포함하고 있으며,[5] 창세기가 현재와 같은 형태로 편집된 시기를 대략 기원전 450-400년 무렵으로 추정하고 있다.[6]

창세기는 크게 우주와 인류의 창조와 이스라엘 민족의 태동이라는 두 가지 내용이 주요 내용이다.
신(야훼)이 세상과 첫 인간인 아담과 하와를 창조하는 이야기부터 시작된다. 이후 아담과 하와는 에덴 동산에서 쫓겨나며, 그들의 두 아들 카인과 아벨의 이야기가 언급된다. 그 다음으로 바벨탑의 건축을 둘러싼 여러 가지 이야기들과 바빌로니아 홍수신화와 비슷한 이야기인 홍수 이야기가 나온다.[7]
창세기의 중반은 야훼가 갈대아 지방의 우르(Ur)라는 곳에 살던 아브라함을 불러내어, 그와 그의 아내 사라를 우르 지방에서 현재의 이스라엘, 팔레스타인 지역인 가나안 땅으로 불러내는 이야기를 언급한다. 아브라함의 신에 대한 순종과 그에 대해 신이 아브라함의 자손으로 인해 세상이 축복받을 것을 약속하는 내용은 중반의 중요한 이야기다. 이어서 아브라함의 아들인 이사악, 그의 손자인 에서와 야곱(또는 이스라엘)과 그의 가족들의 이야기가 서술되고 있으며, 마지막은 야곱의 자손들인 이스라엘 민족이, 파라오의 호의를 입어 이집트로 이주하는 것으로 마무리된다.

즉 역사서나 과학책처럼 대하는 것이 아닌, 종교적인 진리를 설명하는 것으로 해석한다.[8][9][10] 창조 이야기를 통해 유일신관을 확립하고, 창조를 통한 하느님의 사랑과 그것이 끝날 수도 있다는 것을 이야기한다. 종말에 대한 이야기는 묵시록에서도 언급된다.[11] 창세기의 6일 창조가 실제 6일 동안 한 것인가에 대해서는 그렇지 않다고 본다. 이는 당시 고대인들의 우주관이 반영된 문학적, 신화적인 표현이다.[12]
